Chickens slow down in the fall to grow brand new feathers. They look rough, like they have been beat up! The worst part about it is that every chicken does this, around the same time, and then they cannot lay eggs. Our egg production has slowed down from almost 3 dozen eggs a day to one. It makes it hard to keep customers happy! We have a new batch of chickens, spring chickens actually, that are supposed to be laying, but have decided to wait awhile I guess too. As much as you can anticipate and hope that animals will do what you want, it doesn't work that way!!
